The Department of Fine Art and Sciences of Art is organizing a visit to the Byzantine Philanthropinon Monastery, one of the most important monastic monuments in our region.
Located on the island of Lake Pamvotis, the monastery is renowned for its impressive 16th-century frescoes. This visit offers a great opportunity to discover the rich Byzantine heritage of Ioannina and enjoy the natural beauty of the lake and the island.

Transportation: Ferry boat to the island
Cost: Free entrance to the Monastery | Boat ticket at student rate (paid in cash by each student)
IMPORTANT NOTES
- Please wear appropriate clothing for visiting a monastery (covered shoulders and knees).
- Comfortable clothing and walking shoes are recommended.
After your return from the island, you are warmly invited to the annual Christmas lunch at the Student Restaurant, open to the entire academic community of the University of Ioannina.
